I have four 100 watt 12 volt solar panels (RNG-100D) a 40 amp charge controller (RNG-CTRL-MPPT 40) and four 6 volt 225ah batteries wired in series and parallel to make a 12 volt 450ah battery bank. I would like to know can I wire the solar panels two 100 watt 12 volt panels in series to make 24 volts and the other two 100 watt 12 volt panels in series to make 24 volts wired parallel in to a combiner box then in to the charge controller. Would I still be able to use my 12 volt battery bank ? Will this setup work ?

You would need to call your vendor or customer service for your charge controller. Some PWM charge controller can do that, but you will lose 1/2 the power. And some PWM will not work or even burn up with an arrangement like that. There are true MPPT charge controllers that are over $100 or more and they may be handle up to about 100 VDC, but here again it depends what controller you buy. You may be able to series all of your panels and keep the amps down and still be able to use a 12 volt nominal battery arrangement without losing a lot of power.
