I noticed yesterday while cleaning that the 30A fuse between my charge controller and the batteries was melted. The fuse was not blown. It looks like I was real close to having a fire. I have the Renogy 400w system with a 40 amp Mppt charge controller. I used 10awg wire running to the batteries from the controller. I am wondering if you have any suggestions. Only one side was burnt or hot. Any help would be appreciates

Only one side was burnt or hot. I believe that one sentence holds the clue as to what happened. That can happen in an electrical circuit when the connection to a component is loose or is otherwise faulty. Essentially, you get a series of micro-sparks and increased heat at that one point and nowhere else...which is sometimes enough to ignite/melt anything in close proximity. The fuse is designed to blow when increased CURRENT flows through it. A loose/faulty/failing connection does not always draw enough current to blow a fuse. That's why I'm guessing yours didn't blow in this situation.

Hello Sir, I believe Jsb2000 is correct in assuming the issue was a faulty wire/connection. I would also replace the 30A fuse for a 40A since the controller is rated to output 40 amps maximum. O.C
