Can the firefly be charged in the rain if the side door is closed?

Hello Jay, The case is waterproof but during rainy days you will get very low output and at times no output at all from those two 10 watt panels.

That's why I asked ray, the conflicting instructions. I'm not talking about leaving it ouside while it pours but in wa. We have days where it may be mostly sunny but a rain cloud will roll in for a minute. I assume it would survive a little rain right?

We have days where it may be mostly sunny but a rain cloud will roll in for a minute. I assume it would survive a little rain right? It should be OK, the unit is fairly water resistant. The only weak point would be the door area. It has a rubber O-ring but that only helps when it is closed. When open water could get into the electrical connections adn cuase problems. I've done a review of the FireFly if you want a closer look - www.loveyourrv.com/?s=firefly
