Hi, New to forum and hoping community can help me with a question. I contacted Renogy with this question and still a bit confused.
I have a Renogy 40MPPT charger and (6) 100 watt panels run in pairs in series and then in parallel which should produce about 45V and 16A with full sun. The battery bank is flooded wet cell trojans at about 400Ah. The charger and panels seem to be working great.
To confirm, this set up is well within the ability of the Charge controller?
My next question is "equalization mode". The manual states:
WARNING: Once equalization is active in the battery charging, it will remain in this stage as long as there is adequate charging current from the solar panel. There should be NO load on the batteries when in equalization charging stage.
This occurs at 28 day intervals. I asked if this was an exact timing and could I rely on exactly 28 days to remove all loads from my system. It turns out the answer is no. The warning is quite emphatic but it seems that there is no way to reliably heed the warning as there is no way to proactively follow this warning each month or so when this mode is activated without knowledge or control by user. As a way to sidestep this process I was told by Renogy to unplug charging unit more often then 28 days to reset it or set controller to GEL mode even though I am using flooded wet cell batteries. Won't this affect charging efficiency?
Has anyone had any issues with "equalization mode" and 12vDC devices attached? Items would include electronics like the circuit board for the fridge, LED lighting, TV, computer etc. It would be nice to know when this mode is engaged to test voltage at devices. Perhaps the RV already has a voltage regulator. Or can anyone advise a voltage regulator to install between battery bank and RV?
Thanks!
