I recently purchased a Renogy 800w kit that includes 8 100w solar panels and a 40 Amp MPPT Charge Controller. This controller will allow input of 800w at 24v but only 400w at 12v. I need to use it on a 12v RV system.
Do I need two controllers, one for each 4 PV panels or can I split or step down the output to 12v?
If I use 2 controllers at 12v, can I attach them both to the same batteries together?
If I use a 24v to 12v converter between the controller and the batteries will the controller still manage the charging properly?
Or should I charge the batteries at 24v and put the 24v to 12v converter between the batteries and the load?
Any input or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would talk to Renogy, tell them the problem, they must have not known what you were doing with this. If it's new, they will take it back and get you the proper controller. Even in series, the controller is not big enough.
Question, if you are putting all this on an RV, why didn't you go with larger panels?
