I have purchased a 100 watt Renogy eclipse suitcase with a 30 amp Adventurer PWM charge controller. I rent covered rv storage space that is comprised fo rows of dual 40 ft spaces back to back that are covered by aluminum roofs that are 20+ feet high. My travel trailer is only 21 ft long so it sits under cover and back in the space quite a bit. One of the reasons I was interested in solar was that the storage doesn't provide continuous electricity and thus I have to deal with keeping my 2 6 volts GC batteries charged between trips and during the winter storage. In the few days I have had the suitcase connected to the travel trailer my 6 volt battery voltage has gone from 12.7 to 13.1 in about 2 days even though the two 50 watt panels together only show 13 volts on the LCD display.....I'm assuming this is due to them being under the covered roofs.
Question: Am I damaging my batteries, panels, or charge controller by using them basically to keep my batteries charged between trips and during storage if the charge controller basically only stays in boost stage or would it be better for me to go ahead and pull the batteries??
I have a battery disconnect switch to completely shut down any 12 volt battery loads but can't use it if I have the suitcase connected via a SAE sidewall port that was installed when the trailer was purchased.
We go out for 3-4 days at a time, maybe twice a month, and usually stay at full hookup campgrounds.
Please don't tell me to call Renogy technical support......I have called them multiple times, waiting to talk to somebody for over 20 minutes, sent emails via their website, and left my phone number for a call back for different questions that I as a newbie have. I'm not complaining they must be extremely busy. It makes me more appreciative of the knowledgeable people on this forum that are willing to take the time to share their knowledge.
