Your Solar Station Monitor software is broken.

Here is how I was able to make it work:

There is a dummy station already set up called 11. It does not work as is, but it's there.

The instructions say to run "Port Configuration" to add the correct port,
but this does not save the changes, so I went to windows control panel,
device manager, and changed the port to com 7, since this is what the
solar setup already has for the dummy station 11. This cannot be done in
earlier versions of windows, like XP, and vista, as the highest you can
go is something like 3 on com ports.

Then the instructions say to run "Device ID Setting" to get the ID of the device.

Then the instructions say to run "Add Station" but after entering the Device
ID It would not save the changes. So I right clicked on the already
existing dummy station 11, and clicked on edit station. This reports the
Device ID as 242. I tried changing it to my device ID, but it would not
save changes, so I copied this number 242, and went back to Parmeter,
Device Parmeter, Device ID Setting, selected port 7, and added the ID
242, and clicked set ID, changing my device ID to 242.

Then the dummy station 11, works.

It's stupid to have to do this backwards like this, and if I wanted to add
another device to monitor, it would be impossible to have more than one
device.

So that is how I got the poorly written software with the poorly written instructions to work.

So there. Now you have the instructions here on this poorly written forum.

well it didn't all happen for me with the same port numbers you had (i used 4, as thats what it wouldnt change from in "port configuration" and named my station "1"). BUT, you were super on point with your steps. thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for me, it was all about

Renogy doesn't come on here... Unless Bird can help you or a couple of others I suggest you call Renogy.... They might be able to help you...

Renogy doesn't come on here... Unless Bird can help you or a couple of others I suggest you call Renogy.... They might be able to help you...

He was able to get it working with a modified version of my instructions. His point was,,,, to paraphrase; why should we have to go through all that trouble in the first place?

Got ya... I guess if you were to buy a bigger CC you wouldn't have to... But I understand it really doesn't make sense...

there is the SRNE (rover) version and the EPEVER (tracer) version, they seem somewhat similar. i tried the epever version when I had the excellent viewstar CC. I really like the grape solar 40a BT from homedepot, it has BT built in @$55 it is hard to beat the features, epever has a bt and wifi dongle for the app or pc software.

Thanks for the info. I have the rover, and the SRNE website is a joke. The software downloads don't download.

So it looks like the software that renogy provides is better than the source. :-)

The equipment in the absence of testing in production works well, the appearance is of a well-designed and robust product, has a good cooling surface and we must bear in mind that it is a regulator with a certain quality, it is an MPPT equipment and according to my basic tests, it performs all loading stages perfectly.
I have done the tests in the workshop to check the real data with the multimeter and the truth is that all the data is real to what it shows on the screen, both the voltage, power and load data.
The basics (Battery type, working voltage, load operation mode) can be configured from the computer screen using the key combination indicated in the manual, only in English.
It comes with an RS232 to USB connection cable and is used to make more complex configurations and can only be enhanced using the software provided by the manufacturer. There is no CD for installation, you have to download it from the Renogy manufacturer's page.

The problem with this software is its installation on Windows 10 as it is my case, you have to make a series of steps because if it does not work, imagine that it is compatible only with previous versions of windows.
I explain a bit my experience to make it work in Windows 10 I have done the following.
First register the OCX controls that you install as it does not register it correctly, for that you have to go to the windows console, (CMD), and run it in administrator mode. Then record the five OCX controls:

regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\MsComm32.ocx
regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\MsComctl.ocx
regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\Tabctl32.ocx
regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\Comdlg32.ocx
regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\Mschrt20.ocx

once registered the OCX you have to modify the executable of the application that you will find inside the folder of the windows directory SysWOW64, (in my case C:\Windows\SysWOW64), press right mouse button on the executable "Solar Station Monitor.exe "and select the compatibility tab in the properties list of the file and modify the following:

Check "Run the program in compatibility mode" and select "Windows7"
Mark "Run this program as administrator"

Also remember and important, do not connect the USB to the PC without first having loaded the drivers that accompany the software that you download.

Once everything is installed the software should start and to use it you have to follow the steps of the manual that accompanies the software, the password for the administrator user is 111111.

Another fact to keep in mind is that it is supplied with an external temperature probe that is used to control the temperature of the battery bank and that the regulator can act accordingly.

I do not value the product with 5 stars for the problems not solved with the installation of the management program, but once installed it is very useful and works perfectly.

I recommend it without hesitation, good price, good quality and good BBB benefits.
