Bird I've got a question about the Renogy 60 Amp Commander MPPT CC.... What's the pros and cons of it? Is it stand a lone or will you need a MT-5 type tracer for it to work properly? Like everything Renogy sells you can't find any good info on it so I ask you..... Do you know of anything better??? I'm going to build another system at my shop and it doesn't need to be as big as the one I have now so I'm going to up grade a little and move stuff around..... Many thanks

I don't blame you at all for sticking with that type of system....it looks very nice.... I'm running a good bit more things than you are or I would run what you have.... You've been a lot of help. Thank you...

sorry mppt does not interest me. have not spent any time on them. Got ya, Any reason you don't care for it??? Or is it because of cost or you don't really need that much power or both??

it too hot for mppt and with a small system it is not needed. yes the cost thing also! for small systems, mo panel is a better deal! morningstar requires a computer to program, I do that with a cell phone.

Ok I got ya, Like a tablet or a lap top??? It's amazing all there is to learn with different solar systems...... And I'm really learning more about heat with a system... I never knew to look at the heat on the CC before I added one more panel, so I have no idea what it was running before I added my extra panel..... The CC was at 52c in full sun the other day and the max is 55c..... But I've only seen that once.... Today it was at 43c in full sun now that it's finally cooling down outside...... So I think I'm going to be fine from now through next summer...... Anyway I'm going to build another system for my shop.... Cheaper this time because I think I have a better understanding than I did before...... LOL But I still don't fully uuderstand this crap..... LOL

nothing wrong with mppt, it is magic to me how the controller can force the panels to operate @ Vmp. bucking (transforming 80v to V batt) does produce some heat, temp compensation a must in heat, most any controller does that. its panel heat that reduces output. They get hot in the sun!
big ole '24v' panels are generally cheaper per watt than 12v panels, if I were making a big battery system it would be several 200+ watt panels and mppt controller, likely series connected to help with wire size.
My landscape lights (5x1wx3hrs/night) and 7ah batt don't need mppt, nor does a 200 watt RV system, having some sort of display is required for me. My first $8 controller was fine, then $40 with display was just as fine and now the $50 grape with blue tooth, all three have default set points that suit me.
