Hello,
I just purchased the following equipment:
Renogy 100 Watt 12 Volt Monocrystalline Solar Panel Rover 20 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller 12V 50A Lithium Phosphate Battery Krieger 2000 watt inverter
Here are my questions. Thanks for your input and wisdom. 1. Can I keep the inverter connected to the battery when I’m charging the battery with the panel? Can I run a load on the inverter while the solar panel/charger is attached to the battery? 2. If the solar panel is only providing an Imp of 5.29 amps, what is the advantage of using a 20 amp charger? 3. If the battery is 50 amps and the panel is providing 5.29 amps, isn’t the battery going to want to push power back to the panel through the charger? I am weak in understanding this electrical stuff and want to understand the whys so thanks so much in advance for putting up with the newbie questions. Chris

1. yes, yes. inverters have parasite draws when on and nothing plugged in. 50ah battery is tiny! esp for a 2000 watt inverter. 2. none, a 30A or 10A would both work as well as a 20A. You have room for expansion. 3. no, only at night but the charger and panel prevent that. The panel can produce voltages between 0 and 22v but the controller forces the panel to operate @ Vmp and transform the power to battery voltage. As power is added to the battery the voltage rises. Let's consider a 100 watt panel 5A and use a multiplier of 4 or 5 and that's 20-25 ah a day, sunny day spring/summer! www.solarelectricityhandbook.com/solar-irradiance.html100 watt 120v light bulb is one amp (ignore inverter inefficiency) @ 120v or 10A @ 12v. Each hr of use and sun or battery needs to provide 10ah. Let's say you plug in a 500 watt fan, @ 12v that's 42A, use if for 1 hr and your battery is dead.

I learned real quick that my 2000w inverter was to large for everyday use... At that time I had 4 6v batteries.... So I bought a 500w and use the 2000w when I need more power like a vacuum or table saw.......
