I am building my first solar system on a ice fishing house for northern MN I have a Renogy Eclipse 100w Mono panel, Renogy CMD-20 20 amp Commander controller with MT-50 remote meter.
The controller install instructions say to place the controller on a vertical surface. Is this a must? I have a perfect spot but on a flat horizontal surface.
The instructions also have warning to connect battery terminal wires to the charger controller first then connect the solar panel wires. After install how do I isolate power from the panel to remove/replace batteries?
I notice I do not see the Eclipse panel on the Renogy web site. I wonder if it has been discontinued?

ya disconnect one panel wire, at the mc4 connection, at the controller, or add a fuse/switch and pull the fuse or switch.
In the cold it may not need to be vertical, but they are designed for some are flow across their back, that should not be much of an issue with your setup on one '12v' panel.
Heat comes from the internal transformer, with input power of up to 100v transformed to batt voltage, your single panel with have input voltage of ~18v, so less transformer heat.

I have the Renogy MC4 inline fuse. I could just pull it when I need to remove the battery or what could I get for a good switch
