I purchased the 100 watt starter kit with the wanderer controller. The directions say to hookup the battery before hooking up the solar panel to the controller. Can the system be installed and NOT hooked up to a batter? I'm using this on my RV storage building and want to be able to hook up to RV battery, then simply unhook from the battery and go with my RV. If I unhook from the battery can this damage the controller? Could I put a switch in the system between the solar panel and the controller to protect the controller?
I'm new to this so need to learn the facts. Thanks.

Sure you can run it without a battery... Just as long as you unhook your panel first.. Unless you want to burn up your CC....
You should have switches and fuses between everything anyway...

What would be a good switch to install between the panel and the controller?

I’m looking for something very compact (inline) I don’t have a lot of room to install

It's only about 3" square... How compact do you need?
